2012 Meagan Martin
Meagan Martin joins us from the University of Cincinnati, College of Design Architecture Art & Planning where she majored in Fine Arts. For Meagan retrieving the past and re-inventing it for the future is essential. Highlighting the similiar and dissimilar traits of two separate cultures one being the Eighteenth century European porcelain manufactories and the second being the handmade techniques of the Appalachian culture show how beautiful the different cultures can mix and mingle to form one entity. In both of these eras nature is the underlying inspiration. In using three-dimensional materials she hopes to disengage the viewer from ordinary life and reconnect us to a state of innocence, wonder, and universal relation. She takes note of the things around her: the playful squirrel, the foraging deer, the buzzing beehive, and connect it to the human objects in a narrative situation.
